Mayor & Council

Elections for Council Members are held every two years. Term of office for the Mayor is two years, and four years for Council Members. Elections for Mayor and Council are held on Election Day, the first Tuesday in November (see Rockingham County Voter Registrar for additional information). The voting precinct for Town of Dayton residents is located in the Council Chambers of the Dayton Municipal Building for all elections.

RJ has lived in Dayton since 2015 when he and his wife, Kimberly, purchased their first home. He loves the small town atmosphere that Dayton has, the amenities that make it a great place for his kids, and the events that make it a great place for everyone. He was appointed to Town Council in August of 2018 and elected in the November 2018 Special Election. (Term expires 12/31/2020)

 

Professionally, RJ serves as the Associate Director of the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices at James Madison University. He graduated from JMU in 2010 with a B.A. in Political Science and received his Master’s Degree in College Student Development from Appalachian State University in 2012. His hobbies include skateboarding, running and cycling in the Shenandoah Valley, and CrossFit.

Sam and his wife, Anita, found their forever home in Dayton in 2012. Sam retired in 2018 as a Sales Manager after 36 years in the Automobile Industry. Anita is employed by Shenandoah Growers Inc. in the accounting department. They enjoy road trips, back-yard cookouts with family & friends, evening walks, and being grandparents. Sam also has a love for sports that has allowed him to play softball, basketball, participate in track & field, and even coach AAU basketball over the years. Sam says “we feel blessed now to say Dayton gives our family peaceful evenings, fun events, and a great place to live.”  (Term expires 12/31/2020)

Jeff is the Corporate Financial Services Director at Truck Enterprises, Inc.  During the winter, he officiates High School Wrestling in the Valley.  He enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities, and is a big fan of college football and NASCAR.

Councilperson Bradford Dyjak appreciates Dayton’s rich heritage and lives on Mill Street with his wife, Andrea, who works at James Madison University.  Bradford is the Director of Planning for Rockingham County and brings an extensive experience in public sector community development leadership, project management, grant writing, planning and zoning administration, and volunteer service. His public service is firmly rooted in the understanding that local government is closest to citizens, most directly impacting their well-being. Bradford has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from York College of Pennsylvania and enjoys traveling, hiking, walks around town, history, and baseball.  (Term expires 12/31/2020.)

Councilperson Cary Jackson and his wife, Stacie, have lived in South Breeze since 2015 with their three children, Cameron, Payton and Emma. Stacie is employed by Valley Community Services Board in Staunton where she is the Infant and Toddler Connection manager. Cameron is a senior at Mary Washington University where he serves as a Resident Assistant. Payton is a freshman at Messiah University and is on the wrestling team. Emma is a freshman at Turner Ashby High School where she participates in track and spends most of her free time at the barn with her horse.

Cary and Stacie own Which Wich Superior Sandwiches in Charlottesville. They opened Which Wich in 2011 and it continues to be a top performing restaurant in the system. Prior to that, Cary worked for Sysco Food Services of VA and Hospitality Hotel Group.

Cary enjoys being active in the community and believes that service to humanity is the best work of life.

They chose Dayton to raise their family because of the safe and friendly environment.  (Term expires 12/31/2020)

Tara owns and operates The Rustic Oracle located on College Street in Dayton. She enjoys home projects, spending time with her family, evening walks and making people laugh.  (Term expires 12/31/2022)
