Mayor & Council

Elections for Council Members are held every two years. Term of office for the Mayor is two years, and four years for Council Members. Elections for Mayor and Council are held on Election Day, the first Tuesday in November (see Rockingham County Voter Registrar for additional information). The voting precinct for Town of Dayton residents is located in the Assembly Room at the Dayton Municipal Building (Mason Street entrance at the flagpole) for all elections.

Mayor Charles Long is married to his wife, Robin of 26 years. They have two daughters: Blair, who graduated from South Dakota State and now teaches Agriculture @ Stewart Middle School in Augusta County and is married to Tyler Hoffman; and Bryli, who graduated from Virginia Tech, and is working in Charlotte, NC.

Mayor Long is a graduate of Virginia Tech, employed full-time with Allied Concrete & Valley Building Supply Companies, and is responsible for Commercial Projects & Outside Sales.  He is on the ACI (American Concrete Institute of Virginia) Board of Directors.

Hobbies Include:  Virginia Tech Athletics, the “Dayton Muddler,” Sports (VT Football & Basketball), Church, Family, Exercise/Weightlifting, Hunting/Fishing, Hiking, Kayaking, Cutting Wood, Summer Vacations w/ Family, and enjoying special times outdoors with Friends.

Vice Mayor Jeff Daly and wife, Maria, have two sons:  Preston and Jacob.  They have lived in Dayton since October 2007.

Jeff is the Corporate Financial Services Director at Truck Enterprises, Inc.  During the winter, he officiates High School Wrestling in the Valley.  He enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities, and is a big fan of college football and NASCAR.

Todd and Julia Collier have been living in Dayton for the past seven years.  They first came to the Valley with the US Navy in 1990 and have considered Rockingham County “home” ever since.  They have raised three children and are blessed with a wonderful daughter-in-law.  Todd is the minister for Valley Church of Christ in Harrisonburg.  Julia is a licensed professional counselor and supervisor for National Counseling Group and works helping children and families in our local schools.  Todd was elected to office in November of 2016.  Todd is an active band booster at Turner Ashby High School. His hobbies include cooking and traveling over Virginia looking at historical sites.  He is also a two time cancer survivor.

Tara owns and operates The Rustic Oracle located on College Street in Dayton. She enjoys home projects, spending time with her family, evening walks and making people laugh.
