Ben and Bubba started playing music together as high school students. As they walked the halls playing and singing, they quickly realized that there was potential for something more. In 2009 the band Dixie Pride was formed. The two, along with Ricky and Jacob, performed across the state of Virginia. Due to life changes going into adulthood, the band decided it was best to take a break. Years later Ben and Bubba decided it was time to rekindle, and again, pursue their passion for bluegrass music. Thus in 2017, A New Shade of Blue was established, from the central part of the great Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Ben Gooden (Mandolin) and Bubba Schroeder (Banjo) joined by Wayne Turner (Guitar) and David Knicely (Bass), quickly rose in popularity across the valley and surrounding areas. In 2019 a fifth person was added to the group, George Aschmann (fiddle). With drive, stage presence, and a great blend of vocal harmonies; A New Shade of Blue delivers enjoyable bluegrass entertainment.
