Prior to the airing of our first movie of the season, Star Wars –The Last Jedi, please join us for a family-style gathering at the Pavilion as we celebrate the facility’s new name — DOVE PARK. Feel free to bring your own “show & tell” items to share when the location was Jim’s Drive-In! Enjoy a free hotdog, and then sit back to enjoy the movie! May the “force” be with you!
Join us for the annual Bonfire behind the Parkview Federal Credit Union! This will be an opportunity to hang out with family, friends and neighbors. We will have S’Mores’ ingredients available (while supplies last). Note: We will also have a separate portable grill available for the roasting of the marshmallows.
The Cardboard Boat Races have been canceled due to a lack of registrations. We apologize for any inconvenience and/or disappointment this may cause.
We’re hoping for a lovely Fall-weather like evening to grill hotdogs and enjoy a peaceful outing at Dove Park! The Town will supply chips and water as well. We will also have the ingredients available for S’mores!
At dusk, we can enjoy the LEGO BATMAN movie that will be shown on our large, outdoor movie screen. Please bring your lawn chair and/or a blanket; don’t forget to bring / invite your family and friends!
No charge for the food or movie! Food available while supplies last.
Join us for our annual Christmas Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting celebration. The parade will go through town and end at Dove Park. The tree lighting, Christmas carols, hot cocoa, etc. will all occur within Dove Park!

Out of concern for public health and safety, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Redbud Festival.
We know that residents and visitors alike have been looking forward to the shopping, dining and entertainment that the festival provides as well as shopping with our local businesses. When we originally postponed from April to late June, we were hopeful that it would be enough time to feel safe in inviting thousands of people to Dayton.
Unfortunately, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to surge in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County area. Once the curve begins to flatten, a containment strategy for the region and the state will be put into place. We do not foresee it being advisable or responsible to have a large crowd in one place by June 20th.
We remain hopeful that the 41st Annual Dayton Days/Autumn Celebration will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 and we look forward to seeing the vendors and shoppers then.
In the meantime, please support local businesses and restaurants. It has been a very difficult time for small town businesses and they need our support! We invite you to visit downtown Dayton and The Dayton Market throughout the summer.
Follow our Facebook page(s) and those of our local businesses to stay informed on promotions, on-line shopping opportunities, openings and other information.
Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon!
COVID-19 UPDATE: The Muddler – Dayton, VA 2020 Cancelled!
Out of concern for public health and safety, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Muddler.
We know that participants, teams, and spectators have been looking forward to training and experiencing this tremendously fun and challenging event together.
Unfortunately, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to rise in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County area and we don’t know what the next two months will bring. This event involves many people in very close contact. Social distancing would be impossible. We were at the point of having to make a decision and we made it with public safety in mind.
People who have already registered will be refunded directly through the RunSignup App within the coming weeks.
In the meantime, please support this year’s partners and beneficiaries by donating directly to: Harrisonburg Police Foundation https://harrisonburgpolicefoundation.org/ and the Bridgewater Fire Department, http://www.bridgewaterfire.com/, if you are able. And, please support the Dayton Police Department and all the businesses in Dayton!
Follow our Town’s website and Facebook pages for future announcements regarding plans for 2021.
Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you next year!
