Holiday Decorating Contest & Tour of Lights @ Dayton, Virginia

Dayton is enhancing our annual holiday decorating contest this year to encourage people to Deck Dayton Out in Holiday Cheer!  We have added more categories and will be posting a Directory of Lights with a map to encourage all to enjoy a tour of holiday lights through Dayton.  We need your help to Deck Dayton Out!  Let’s make our Town the place to visit this holiday season!  Please register your address with us to be entered into the contest and to be included in the Directory.  Must register by Monday, December 7th by 4:00 p.m.  All judged residential category winners will receive a special Best Holiday Decoration yard sign and a local gift basket.  In addition, several Honorable Mention awards will be granted and will also receive a yard sign.  See registration form below for complete details.

Judging will take place on Thursday, December 17th from 6-9:30 p.m.  Votes for People’s Choice Award will be accepted until noon on Friday, December 18th.

Check back here December 9th for a Directory and map for our Tour and instructions for how to vote for your favorite residence and neighborhood.

Categories include:

Clark Griswold Award (residential judged category): National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a holiday favorite!  Their house was completely decked out with lights and decorations.  This category is totally over the top!

Classic Holiday Elegance Award (residential judged category): Very traditional and basic; clean, crisp, and tidy.  This category is all about celebrating the traditions of the holiday.

Winter Wonderland (residential judged category): This category is more theme concentrated, featuring snow, reindeer, snowmen, inflatables and/or lawn decorations.

Santa’s Workshop Award (business judged category): This category is for Businesses only and will be awarded to the business with the best overall holiday display.

Best Neighborhood Award (spectator voted): Three or more homes, either directly next door or across the street in the same block, promoting cooperation and collaboration in their efforts. Or, a healthy neighbor competition!
