Dayton Town Council Appoints New Town Manager

The Dayton Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Brian J. Borne as its new Town Manager. At its meeting on Monday, November 13th, the Town Council unanimously approved an employment agreement with Mr. Borne. Mr. Borne was most recently the City Manager of the City of Monroe, North Carolina. Previously, Mr. Borne served in numerous positions with the City of Monroe, including the Director of Downtown Monroe. He also served as the Executive Director for the Gastonia Downtown Development Corporation, in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Mayor Cary Jackson stated, “Brian’s experience with economic/downtown development will benefit our business owners and Dayton’s quality of life.”

The Town Council conducted a national search for the new Town Manager, assisted by the Berkley Group, of Bridgewater, Virginia. The Berkley Group received applications and conducted initial interviews with the most qualified candidates and assisted in selecting finalists for interviews with the Council. The Council expressed their appreciation for the services of Interim Town Manager, Earl Mathers, as they completed the search for the new Town Manager.

Mr. Borne received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture – Recreation and Planning from Louisiana State University and an MBA from Nicholls State University. He is a member of the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA) and other regional professional associations, holding leadership positions in several of those organizations. Mr. Borne has also received numerous certifications, including Municipal Administration through the University of North Carolina; National Main Street certification through the National Trust for Historic Preservation and credentialling from the Community Development Institute with the University of Arkansas.

“I am looking forward to bringing a collaborative approach to everything we do and including all (citizens) in the dialogue,” said Mr. Borne. Mr. Borne will assume his duties as the Dayton Town Manager in late November.
